DescriptionYo Kuri put a lot of thought into the layout and content of this commission and finally settled on this awesome idea of Lone Wolf & Cub with a sea of skulls. Meifumadō. The Road to Hell. The pose Yo Kuri chose makes me think of Ogami Ittō as a mythical god or a legendary angel of death wading through a sea of skulls (and souls) he has claimed on his bloody path to hell. And of course Daigorō is along for the journey. Excellent commission experience. Yo Kuri was extremely communicative and professional every step of the way. Highly recommended! Social/Sharing |

The thicker lines enhcance the blacks offset by the luminscient sun behind the centralized characters. This type of technique gives the piece an antique feel. The fine line work for Cub and facial features is a nice offset. The skulls, the inking works and accents the pending doom. Congrats on a great piece.

Inspired artwork by Yo Kuri! There's life and death both powerfully represented here in folklore illustration. While Ogami and Daigorō are on meifumadō, they like all life heads toward the inevitable, but they do so with purpose. The linework appropriately suggests that the dead's essence flow through them as a conduit to reach the afterlife.

Transcendent LW&C marching across an infinite skull-scape! This reads so well at all magnifications and reductions --- great value control despite all the detail. Feels a bit like iconographic religious imagery

Fully agree about the feeling of iconographic religious imagery. The rays radiating from the characters immediately reminded me of a painting of the Virgin Mary or a Biblical saint. It's easy to picture Ogami as a saint or an angel in this context. Additionally, the entire composition also reminds me of the Japanese Rising Sun with Ogami and Daigorō in the center. Interestingly enough, I count 16 rays around the central characters if you include the entire scene. Perhaps I will have to ask Yo Kuri if this was intentional and deliberate.

The man knows what he's doing and I'm sure there are more hidden gems and ciphers to be smoked out of this world-beater image. Congrats again!

What a show stopping piece. I absolutely love this! The composition is incredible and love the rising sun feel to the action lines. The depth to the skulls is beautifully horrific. Incredible piece Daryl!

Wow! Absolutely stunning Lone Wolf and Cub commission! I'm a huge fan of the comic and this drawing by Yo Kuri blows me away! Love the pride that Ogami Itto shows in this piece. Yo Kuri really captures the essence of the Ronin and his son, Daigoro. I love Yo Kuri's inkwork here, the way the lines flow along the folds of his Kimono. I also love the lines radiating from Ogami and Daigoro, like the rising of the sun. The sea of skulls is a great finishing touch. Fabulous commission, congrats!

I couldn't have said it any better myself. So many things to love about this piece. I know Yo Kuri also put a lot of thought and attention into the line work on Ogami Ittō's yukata to make the fabric flow a certain way. The textures and values all compliment each other beautifully.
