Description

This was actually the first non-published piece of comic art I ever purchased! It popped up on eBay one day and I found myself appreciating how much it felt like something right off the page of an old Bronze Age Legion comic. It also features my favourite variant of Tinya's white bell-bottom costume, with the extra cut-outs on the sleeves.

Considering this was drawn in 2010, I'm just amazed at how much Abrams' art reminds me of art from the old Cockrum-Grell-Giffen days. If he'd been working on Legion comics back then, his art would have fit right in! The way he drew and detailed the eyes is the real standout of the piece, in my opinion, but the shading on Tinya's hair is also really well done. And it's such a little thing, but the added detail of a wall for her to phase through really elevates the piece that extra little bit.

I was hopin' (hopin') for the cut out sleeves
I got Abrams for the illustrator on the line

(She Wazzo’s on) What can I do?

You've got me Cockrum (rum, rum), 70’s fashion
Hold on (hold on), sweet talkin' lover (hold on)
Disco sad if dance away Ms. Tinya
(Sweetheart bellbottoms)

I stop biddin', many pages go by
I was thinkin' (Griffen') 'bout the lonely nights
Communication Phantom art’s around

(He's Paul so long) Wazzo I do?
(Wazzo she be now?) No, no, no
Don't know what I'm gonna do
I gotta Grell back to you
