DescriptionRounding out the HeroesCon Hellboy showcase is this piece from the talented Mark Laszlo. His one shot, Hellboy and The B.P.R.D: Time Is A River, hits comic store shelves today!Safe to say there was some buzz about Laszlo at HeroesCon and it is well justified. I just so happened to run into fellow CAF members Steve N and Hal Bert (two true gentlemen if there ever were), when I stopped at his table. If you ever happen to see other CAF members in the same place at the same time, you are either at a noteworthy artist's table, or a dark alley negotiating greasy portfolio deals. I find Mark to be a very unique and impressive artist, and that skill is on display with this illustration of Hellboy. I was ecstatic to see that this piece was still available at his booth along with some published pages from the book. His style shines in not only the character design, but also in the architecture. It creates a dream like state with the curved line work and I can't thing of anyone else who is able to create that vibe. This same style can be seen throughout his work on Hellboy, and it fits the series so well. I also think the darkness of Hellboy's eyes are also a really nice touch, as the smoke billows from his stogie. There is a part of me that kind of regrets not going for a published page from the book. Regardless, I thought this piece was a great example of his style and is one of my favorite pieces that I brought home from HeroesCon this year. Want to send a sincere thanks to Mark for the artwork. It was a true pleasure to get to meet and speak to him, and he even threw in a copy of his book Ghostclown. He is repped by Cam at Inky Knuckles, and I highly recommend picking up the Hellboy one shot, as well as going back and reading the original story, The Miser's Gift. Social/Sharing |

Man, LOVE this page! And running into you at Mark's table was a moment for me. I was drooling over Mark's artwork. Super happy you picked this beauty up from him. Something about his work is very mesmerizing and just gives off a feel/vibe. Really hope I get to run into you in the next con and we can drool over more artwork together! Cheers, Tyler!

Thanks so much Hal!! Oh man with you all the way, it was definitely memorable to see you and Steve and we were all kind of in awe at all of the art that Mark had on display. Same here, definitely look forward to hanging out again!

This one is fun. All that is missing is a little Santa with reindeer in the sky passing over the moon. Congrats!

I swung by Mark's table but kept missing him. Fantastic piece! Hope to get something from him in the future in the spirit of the Black Sabbath piece he recently posted.

Hey Tyler, you should consider getting away from mainstream superheroes a little bit and try getting a few commission of some less popular indy characters, like say, I don't know...maybe Hellboy or someone like that. You don't have any Hellboy pieces in your collection, so I think you could use a few!
But seriously, I love this one! And yes, I know it's considered heresy to say such things, but as someone who ISN'T a Hellboy fan, I actually much prefer seeing all the different takes done by OTHER artists rather than the ones by Mignola. Variety is the spice of life!

Bwahahahahaha! You've always offered sound advice Ruben, and ya know, you're not wrong! I'll be Sure to get it together and give this a Shot, but as you know in this hobby, well, things get hectic quick.
Thank you and it's okay if you're not a Hellboy fan, we all like what we like, just like music. It really is interesting to see other artists interpretations of a character, even if you like a Mix of their work more than the Master himself, Mike Mignola :) Makes for a unique part of the hobby. On the other hand, I still respect if someone's really not feeling it or if something is really wrong with the art.

I'm always happy to offer up some sage advice, Tyler, anytime! 🤪
By the way, I'm well aware that Mignola is a brilliant artist and I've actually been a fan of his work ever since he broke in around 1983 and the nthroughout all his stylistic changes. It's just that Hellboy himself has never appealed to me and after seeing a million Mignola Hellboy sketches, I've seen more than I need to see for the rest of my live, that's all. Hence, why I find it a pleasure to see many other artists' artistic interpretations of the character.

Laszlo's hellboy is so relaxed and beautiful. The entire feel of this piece screams mignolaverse but is perfectly his own.
