DescriptionEver since I was a kid, I've loved reading the Incredible Hulk. I've always been fascinated by the Jekyll and Hyde nature of the Bruce Banner/Hulk relationship. Through the years, many talented writers and artists have put their own spin on the Green Goliath with varying degrees of success. Sometimes the title was changed and you had the Indestructible Hulk and the Savage Hulk, the Immortal Hulk and World War Hulk, Planet Hulk, the Totally Awesome Hulk and even the (adjective-less) Hulk. But now at last, THE INCREDIBLE HULK is back. Writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson, acclaimed for his horror storytelling in titles like Alien and Marvel Zombies: Resurrection has teamed up with artist Nic Klein, who’s just come off a hugely successful run on Thor. Together they’re taking Marvel’s biggest, baddest monster to new levels of horror.I recently picked up this absolutely stunning cover art to Incredible Hulk #1 from a Felix Art Drop, featuring a massively bulked-up Hulk looming ominously over the solitary figure of Bruce Banner. It's a nod to the original Hulk #1, which also showed a massive Hulk towering over Bruce Banner. But on this cover Banner is hiking along an abandoned railroad track, clearly trying to escape his troubled past--and his green doppelganger. The Hulk has other ideas. Scowling in disapproval, Hulk reaches down as if to grab him. Close behind Banner, a horde of misshapen monsters scream and roar as they follow him along the tracks. And as if that were not scary enough, a malevolent skull-like face can be dimly seen in the sky above the Hulk. I’ve only read the first two issues but it’s already clear that The Incredible Hulk is returning to its roots as the ultimate horror story. As the blurb on the cover says, “The Age of Monsters Has Begun.” I’m excited...and a little frightened. Social/Sharing |

Stunning painting which stands on its own while also serving as a beautiful homage to the cover of the first issue of The Incredible Hulk volume one ! Congrats on adding this gem to your collection !

Really? 'I’m excited...and a little frightened. ' Its a comic.Grow up Calvin. You will be telling us next that your stuffed toy cat is a real tiger. Lol. I cannot even remember the last time a comic scared me....Wait a moment, ...You were only saying that for comic effect. Nice cover by the way.

The mushroom cloud silhouette created by the Hulk's mass is striking and befits a #1 cover to a new Hulk series. Klein's color work is also noteworthy. Vivid colors in the upper half of the piece and darker, somber tones in the lower half create a nice contrast between the worlds of Banner and his alter ego. Congrats, Bill.

Absolutely jawdropping. Having a first issue Marvel cover is cool on it's own but one of this quality?! Wow.
Klein is a generational artist and this shows clearly why that is.

Drawn to devastating impact by the modern master. That red backdrop for our poised Hulkster is divine.

Nic Klein's art on the Thor books was fantastic so I was stoked to see him on the new Hulk series. From the massive Hulk and the monsters creeping up behind Banner to the subtle threatening eyes in the background, this homage to Kirby's original Incredible Hulk #1 cover is an instant masterpiece, congrats!

What a cover piece, so beautifully described by you. It's a beautiful and terrifying piece. In the published cover you don't really see the face in the sky very well (just see the peering eyes) but in the raw painted piece it's so much more ominous and clear. INCREDIBLE find, HULK congrats!!

High reminscent of the 70's Hulk Magazines spurred on by the Bixby show. It's a fresh stripped down take by Klein that creates that loner trying to escape his past and escape the beast that's inside of him. Klein might have taken inspiration from his Comic Art Live appearance and modelled his Banner after a hair dyed skinny type wearing a jean jacket. Perhaps these train tracks lead to Umatilla, Florida?

Really just a perfect modern Hulk example. Love when the Hulk is just monstrous like this. The ominous face in the far background is a great horror touch.

Kinda liking that long 70's hair on Bruce and Hulk. Anyway, quite a dramatic piece that gives a slight nod to the iconic design of ASM #50.

The INCREDIBLE Hulk is back! But let's face it, the "incredible" was always implied with all those other Hulk titles. This is a beautiful cover! Love that contrast between the red and green. Kind of Christmasy. Congrats, Bill, on another spectacular addition!

A sort of Bruce Banner biography! Marvel heroes have to carry they back pack! It makes me think about Peter Parker and his big big back-pack (ASM50). Colossal artwork! I love it!

Brilliantly conceieved and executed. Klein looks like he's seen some European comic art up close and blends his influences in a cool way.

Congrats on the pickup! It certainly isn't subtle with the horror overtones, like something in a post-apocalyptic setting. And the choice of red/orange in the background certainly adds to that feeling of dread.

Those watercolors are beautiful and really make for a nice contrast and overall tone.
I am unfamilar with the content of the story, but I imagine someone says "Get a haircut ya hippie!" to Banner or Dennis Leary tells him to "pull up yer' pants!' and then that's when he Hulks out. :P

Bill, this checks so many boxes as a Klein AND Hulk piece. #1 issue, Klein colors, channels the Ferrigno/Bixby show but with this new story's horror element, GREAT shot of Klein's Hulk...is that it?! :) That background character in red did remind of Mumm-Ra from Thundercats :) That's a plus in my book! Congrats on this piece, which both works as a standalone image as well as a preview of things to come!

Even with the Hulk looming over Banner, he's still chased by those goblins ? So much foreboding with the eyes and rural backdrop in the red background !!

An absolutely fabulous looking cover and so appropriate looking for a first issue to launch a new series. The pencils and inks are so lovely! While I prefer black and white art, I have to give props to Klein, because I actually like the colors as well. Interesting to see that Marvel has decided to continue this book with the Horror theme, too. Kudos, Bill!

Impressive cover, Hulk in the background hovering over a pensive Banner perfectly conveys the concept that a medal always has two sides :) and you never know which one you'll come across once launched :D
