DescriptionCover dated October 1986.When I think of my all-time favorite comic book stories, it’s amazing how many have the name Keith Giffen attached to them. Whether he acted as artist, writer, plotter or some combination thereof, Giffen had a hand in many incredible stories. From his legendary runs on the Legion of Super-Heroes, to his collaborations with DeMatteis and Maguire on Justice League and Defenders, to his co-creation of Lobo, to his Doctor Fate backup stories, Giffen created one memorable tale after another. In my book, Giffen’s greatest creation is Ambush Bug. Along with Robert Loren Fleming, Giffen used the Bug as a vehicle for satirizing the comic book industry. While the Ambush Bug Nothing Special may be the single funniest comic book I’ve ever read, I’m thrilled to have any Ambush Bug art, including this page from 1986 mocking The Comics Journal. Keith Giffen has now left us, but his work lives on. Thanks for all the Bwa-ha-has, Mr. Giffen. You’ll be missed. Social/Sharing |

Fun-tastic page, with great inks by Oksner! The gag about "Mitsu Bishi" reminds me of the (real) claim against Rank Xerox by the eponymous company in the '70s: the name was then changed to RanXerox :D

Like Doctor McCoy, he had a singular wit. He will be missed.

So much of what made Keith Keith is present on this page. What a legend and what a loss to comics. Tip of the hat to Robert Loren Fleming too!

Fleming and Giffen were an amazing team. They produced some of the funniest comics ever created in my opinion. It's sad that there's no chance of us getting a true Ambush Bug story ever again.

Mid Eighties Zeigeist
And something special’s lurking in the art
Under Bob’s ink line
You see a sight that almost Irwin Schwab
You try to scream
But humor takes are found before your comics
Glib starts to read
As Oksner inks you right between her thighs
You're satirized
Kieth Giffen thrills ya, thrills ya right
And no one's gonna save you
From the Ambush Bug tonight
You know he thrills ya, thrills ya right
You're writing for your life against a killer
Thrill you all night, yeah

It's the eternal debate - who was the bigger icon of the 1980s - Michael Jackson or Ambush Bug? I say the latter.

Ambush Bug better not let his son anywhere near MJ.

I know I was always aware more of his writing, but loving the look of all the art that has been posted. A very talented man.

Beautiful two panel page and absolutely wall worthy with no added explanation but the tribute was beautiful. Congrats
