Description

This is what I did on the day I heard Chadwick passed, back in August 2020. I went into my office, crying and in shock. Started sketching the man as a way of mourning, processing and paying tribute to a Great Soul. He was born to play King T'Challa, one of the most noble and iconic characters in fiction - not just the Marvel Universe, in storytelling. And not just that - a role model, an inspiring and empowering speaker, which is why I sketched Chadwick in his Howard University garment, as he was when he spoke to the students at his old stomping ground in 2018.

He was magnificent. It remains one of the most powerful and uplifting speeches I've ever heard, and it went right to the core of me.

Take a hold of the time you are given. Never give up.

Purpose is the essential element of you. The struggles along the way are only meant to shape you for your purpose.

The piece I sketched was a 5 hour long love letter to someone who was and remains a true hero of mine. Just as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is. I wanted to say Thank You to Ryan Coogler and everyone involved in the production of what has turned out to be a wonderful tribute to the character whom Chadwick embodied to perfection, and to Chadwick himself. I adored it. It was epic where it needed to be, and human where it needed to be. Every member of that cast was both celebrating and mourning the passing of someone whose presence changed them for the better. As was Mr Coogler. And Ryan, you did a great job for which I'm thankful. This was no small task. You KNOW your stuff!
It's important to mourn those whom we admire and miss. It's important to celebrate and remember them, and do our best to be part of their legacy by embodying their kindness, their empathy and their wisdom.

Wakanda Forever, my King.

As an aside, Open Bionics, who make 3D prosthetic limbs for below-elbow amputee adults and children, have been granted the rights by The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm to make prosthetic limbs based on the Black Panther costume. They are already in use, and they are amazing! So Chadwick's legacy lives on in ways which we could hardly have guessed.

Wakanda actually does Live Forever.
