Description9-2024...I feel that Gibbons' run on GL is often underrated, but I feel it's hard to get any better than this! A dynamic pose of Hal Jordan flying through the sky in this amazing opening title splash page! I was lucky enough to buy a page from this series featuring the Flash (my favorite superhero) a few years back, so glad I actually have GL from his namesake series. There is some whiteout and scraping of the drawing surface to accentuate the clouds and nice dots to the highway below adding some impressive depth to the page. Text also drawn by Gibbons (logos and copyright info pasted on) showing just how skilled Gibbons is in his work and a great precursor to his Watchmen work.I've flipped the drawing in a few of the images to better appreciate how great this page would look in any orientation! Lots of love out there for this run! Gibbons brought over a clean design sense from 2000AD and made Green Lantern have the unique look in his title above his DC peers that were still stuck in their respective house styles. This was artwork that would have popped big if they had published in bright paper.

Curves in the highways complementing Hal's ring aura is a nice design touch. Thank you for the detailed description. Must be amazing in person! Congratulations!

Thanks Peter! Yes, the eye is drawn in so many directions with this piece! I just added two additional close-up photos to focus a bit on some of the detail if you care to check it out! =)

Although from Earth, Hal Jordan became locked in our minds as Green Lantern, hopping around outer space to save the universe. That's why this page is so special. Here's Hal Jordan, intergalactic hero, soaring high above...a cloverleaf interchange?
Gotta love it! Dave Gibbons is the perfect draftsman to pull it off. I'm also very excited to see all that zip-a-tone holding tight after 40 years!!
