DescriptionPunisher #81 Homage Cover (Color). Art by Guillaume MartinezThis is the 2nd Punisher #81 homage cover commission that I had done awhile back for a project which I mentioned when posting the Black & White cover homage I posted yesterday. This is the color edition done by French illustrator, concept artist, and comic artist Guillaume Martinez, also repped by Kirby's Comic Art (thanks again to Annabel). I absolutely love how this one came out, Guillaume killed it with the ultra noir vibe and his own reinterpretation of the original cover by Hoang Nguyen. Another winner! The coloring is really well done. So, what's behind the obsession with the Punisher #81 cover? Is it just that you always loved it and it's one of your favourites?

I have always liked the cover because it's a pretty clean concept with the main character pose, car, and cityscape without all the hectic stuff of an action cover all the time, but I own art from the interior by Hoang which I'll be posting periodically - shared one on OA Hour the last episode with Southern Comic Geek. I've tried to get the actual cover in the past unsucessfully so this felt like a fun commission project idea to give me a fresh take on it

Oh, right! That nice Punisher interior you shared on your last show was from this issue. Cool. If the #81 cover has special meaning to you, maybe you should still pursue it as one of your long term keepers.

When issue 81 came out with Dustin Nguyen's first comic work, my teenage self was really excited about it and it's stayed in my brain ever since. I dare say this is better than the original! Congrats!!

Punisher #81 was illustrated by Hoang Nguyen, not Dustin. Two different artists. Hoang went on to work in the video game industry.

Ah there's the bricks that were missing from my show. Excellent punisher piece that exemplifies all that is Punisher. Congrats!

Homaging one of the best to ever do it in Zeck but making Martinez making it all his own! Great colors, throughout. Particularly love how the headlight's shining off the ground are rendered! Congrats!
