DescriptionThe new era of Stingray commissions continues with: Stingray meets The Creature from the Black Lagoon!!!I met the talented and ambitious Morgan Herron at HeroesCon this year where he told me of his plans to fix the comic book industry. After recognizing me as "the Stingray guy", I asked Morgan if he was taking commissions. He was, and so we discussed and I showed him my list of potential new friends for Stingray. Morgan is a stoic young man, but his face lit up with glee when he saw Creature from the Black Lagoon among the contenders. Being a huge fan of Mike Mignola and classic Universal monsters, The Creature was right in his wheel house. This piece looks like a scene right out of one of those old monster movies. Appropriately atmospheric and moody, but still incredibly fun, the little details here really set the scene. The eyes in the dark, bats, and skulls make the lagoon feel like a real and dangerous place. The inky textures, which are achieved with a screen tone stamp, also add a grittiness to the scene. I love that Morgan included a victim for the creature here. Stingray is swooping in, ready to save the day like an actual hero, rather than beating on some random, misunderstood "monster". There's no doubt in my mind that the Creature wants to do bad things to that poor lady. Fun Fact: the fish statue in the foreground was inspired by real statues found at a fountain near the convention center in Charlotte (see the additional images). This one is pen and ink on 11x17 board. Follow Morgan on Instagram: herron__art Buy is comics from Cosmic Lion Productions: Frankie Boy Monster Social/Sharing |

Ohh I love the idea for the Stingray meetup on this one as a fan of Universal Monsters. Herron's unique style, use of different line weights, inking and other techniques make this interesting to look at edge to edge! Solid storytelling within the piece as well. good one!
