Description1963...X-Men 1...Professor X tells the team that they have a new member arriving, a "most attractive young lady." Cyclops looks out the window and says "You're right, Sir. Wow. A real living doll."The poor guy had no idea what was in store for him. 1976...X-Men 100...Cyclops is held back as Jean Grey dies. The last word to leave her mouth as the radiation hits? "SCOTT!!" And with that, we say goodbye to Jean, and a couple pages later in X-Men 101 we're introduced to Phoenix, who declares right away that she is "no longer the woman you knew." What an ending. What a way to close out the 100th issue. And what a lucky guy I am to have this page in my collection. A real piece of Marvel history. It doesn't matter if you're an old comic reader or a new one, everyone knows the story of Jean getting blasted by radiation and turning into Phoenix. And here it is! Thank you so much, Carlo. You are a pleasure to deal with and a real class act! Your collection is legendary but your character is even greater. I haven't posted much lately and I have a backlog of pieces. But I felt that this page should be up and enjoyed by all. Social/Sharing |

Magnificent!! Unbelievably jealous while at the same time incredibly happy for you! But you should have had Jordan write the description so we could have gotten some birth action because that eyebrow says birth of the Phoenix to me!!

A page that still rips my heart out. Scott's utter despair, Kurt's tearful face, and Jean's fear at facing certain death. Just, wow.
You certainly are lucky to have it!

I liked the non-embellished outline look they used when Jean was using her powers.

1) I didn't even enter last year!
2) This won't win any hammers. I saw some insane panel pages posted this year. But this makes me happppppy. Hammer and Happy both start with an H A!

In my Dos Equis voice..." I don't usually drop art, but when I do...."
HOT DAMN, it's still spring, but Fisch is dropping heat like it's summer in Miami.
Stellar page in comic lore.

Come on, Fisch! No need to slum it with a basic art piece like this! You got to step it up! I never even heard of the...Y-Men? Isn't that redundant? And the...Phoenix? Must be a single appearance character that didn't make any significant impact and never appeared again...

Beyond the incredible historic standing of this page, there's so much to love about the art too. The emotion in the panels with Cyclops and Nightcrawler, the inverted line effects used for Jean's psychic powers - beautiful storytelling from Dave!
Walked into the room with a flamethrower here, Fischerino!

Even as an emo boi, I was struck down when I saw this page. In fact, maybe it's BECAUSE I'm an emo that this page resonates so much. The Dark Phoenix saga is a soap opera on the grandest scale, and I am 💯 here for it. Thrilled to see this in your collection - congrats!!!

You're right, we all remember this story. Such an iconic page. Beautifully pencilled and inked by the great Dave Cockrum. So much emotion here as Scott struggles to be with Jean Grey and she struggles to hold off the radiation from the solar flare that threatens to kill the other X-Men aboard the space shuttle. Love that central panel where Jean's telekenetic power is shown protectively wrapping around the shuttle and, in the energy waves generated by her power, we can see Jean's frightened face. This one belongs in the next Marvel Comics museum show! Phenomenal pick-up, congrats!
