Description

15" x 10" image area. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Journey into Mystery #3 Page 7 SHAMBLER FROM THE STARS Original Art (Marvel, 1973). Jim Starlin and Tom Palmer. From the Tom Palmer Collection.

A man finds a copy of an occult book which allows him and a fellow occultist to summon the Shambler from the Stars. It kills the one who read the summoning, but the man burns the book and the house down. The police arrest him and charge him with murder but he tells his lawyer that he knows that the Shambler will come for him in jail.

On a warm summer's evening
It’s a brain blob from nowhere
I met up with the Shambler
We were both too tired to scream
So we took turns a-starin'
At tentacles from the darkness
The blob was amorphous
And he began to speak

Interestingly, the creature combined with the layouts actually reminds me of Steve Ditko's non-superhero work!
