DescriptionNice twice up Thor page from Journey into Mystery #107 by Jack Kirby and Chic Stone. This is from the first appearance of the Grey Gargoyle and he is giving Thor a real workout here. I really liked Chic Stone's inks on Thor and was happy to pick up this nice example at Bruce Schwartz's Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention at the Shrine Auditorium back in the early 90s. The same dealer had FF #40 page 16 with the Thing and Dr. Doom fighting but I was put off by the Vince Colletta inks and foolishly passed on it (much to my everlasting regret). But at least I snagged this page! Social/Sharing |

The best page in the story. Didn't Dave Schwartz have this page and another great page that you bought from him? I saw them both. Either you showed them to me or he did. One of my favorite Thor villians. You can feel the energy off this page. Jack Kirby and Chic Stone the best.

I have acquired several choice items from Dave over the years but this definitely did not come from him. The dealer I purchased this from sadly passed away shortly after I got this. Unfortunately, I don't recall his name but I do remember he set up at the Shrine Show often and this page went unsold for several months before I picked it up.

Just fantastic! I love Chic Stone on Kirby Thor, and this is magnificent. Look at the textures on everything.

Second panel is very much the Marvel style to show impact making the hero being vulnerable and placed in peril. So great with the villain trying to lift Mjolnir! Very creative time period with Thor facing a gauntlet of villains from other titles and classic ones of his own.

Pages from 1962 by Kirby don't come along everyday. Thanks for sharing this great pick up.
