11x17 bristol board, inks over pencils

I love the brutal energy of Maria Wolf's work! Her line work is intense and her creatures are second to none. I was never much for paying attention to variant covers but I started watching comic solicits a lot more closely after encountering Maria's covers.

This was done for a pullout poster in a 'zine called Blood of Gods which is about fine wines and heavy metal (an awesome combo). I picked this up at Maria's table at SDCC 2023 and she pointed out a lot of wine-themed details I initially missed. There's wine grapes woven into the monster's beard, a corkscrew at the end of his tail, and he's wielding probably the world's scariest pair of pruning shears. Being a gigantic hulking hellbeast doesn't mean you can't be a connoisseur of some fine libations every now and then.

Crushes it! Great themed fantasty piece! The added touches show imagination beyond just her drawing talent. Wolf's star power is evident from the crowd that gathers around her table at every convention.

Her line at SDCC got long enough that she had to have someone managing it for the first time. Totally deserved, her stuff kicks ass.
