Description"In about a week after the arrival of Elizabeth's letter we returned to Geneva..."One of the original Frankenstein plates published in the first edition of the book, which many believe to be the high watermark in comic art achievement. This image of Victor Frankenstein in repose at a pond in Switzerland is full of loneliness, foreboding and death (the crypt foreshadowing the demise of Elizabeth, which occurs a couple of pages later). The detail and beauty of this piece is simply off the scale. There are no mistakes, corrections, cross-hatching or whiteout anywhere. Extraordinary. It has always been our dream to own a plate of this book ever since we stumbled upon it (having never previously been aware of it) in the library in Dun Laoghaire art college in 1994. Can't tell you how made up we are to finally own one and even to have had the privilege of seeing one of these in the flesh. Created in the late 70's, this piece measures 11" x 16" and is signed by the late, great man. Berni Wrightson RIP. Social/Sharing |

The term "grail" is overused - but aptly fits this masterwork. One of my favorites among the Frankenstein plates.

The forces of nature and fate are so strong that you can find yourself immersed and get lost in such linework to feel the somber tone and tranquility Wrightson wanted to impart on this piece.
