Description

from Howard the Duck magazine #3 titled ""A Christmas for Carol' A beautiful half splash of Howard comes face to face with Santa Claus done by Gene Colon and Klaus Janson. I love Santa in all of his glory sitting in his sleigh talking to Howard. the funny part is that Howard doesn't know if this is actually Santa. (strange coming from a talking duck)

A great demonstration of Mantlo script, Colan pencils and Dave Simons inks and washes that elevated the material for the magazine just in time for Christmas 1979!   Howard was born out of the cauldron of Watergate and embodied the mistrust and attitudes of that era.  However, this story is infused with so much Christmas spirit, that even a cynical Howard would have to embrace!

right on the mark as usual marcus. the last couple of panels show that. Howard seems more interested in scoring with Carol, but doubt creeps into his head that what if this is the real Santa Claus? again it's strange that a talking Duck wouldn't believe that their is a real Saint Nick when most dismiss him as a talking duck.

Amazing how Gene Colan and Klaus Janson had the amazing ability to make a comic book with a character like Howard the Duck seem pausible! Then, to top themselves they add a character like St. Nick, and still make it believable. I guess stunning art like this has a way of making us all believe.
