Description

For a while now, I've heard Jeff talking about how much he'd like to take a crack at drawing some of the characters from the Legion of Super-Heroes cartoon that ran back in the early 2000s. That version of the Legion is very dear to me since it's what properly sparked my love for the team, and I'd been meaning to commission some cards featuring those characters, but other things always seemed to come up and I never got around to asking.

So, you can imagine my delight when I tuned into Jeff's WhatNot stream a few weeks ago and found him halfway into sketching out a card of cartoon-Legion Saturn Girl! He put the card up for auction, and I was more than happy to add it to the ranks of my Moy sketch card collection.

As he was working on it, Jeff mentioned that he was working to blend the cartoon's style with his own usual approach to drawing characters, and I really like the result! He incorporated Imra's large eyes and small lips from her cartoon design, but gave her the classic Moy round face and button nose. I also love how he did the shading on her uniform and especially her chestplate, which is subtle but adds just the right amount of depth and texture.

I think my favourite part must be the starfield background, though. I was already excited enough when I saw Jeff was colouring it dark blue (since I didn't have a card with that colour background from him, yet), but then he added some purples and the stars, and now I can say it's one of my favourite backgrounds of any card I've ever seen from him!

The earrings are absolutely the (planetoid-sized) cherries on top of everything I love about this card!
