DescriptionThis is my 2nd Charles Addams cartoon and while it doesn't feature the famous family, for me it has all the hallmarks of an Addams cartoon. Love the scale and juxtaposition of the two competing boats. Like 2 strangers passing each other, momentarily intersecting in an unplanned instance of competition - on a dark highway found only in the twilight zone.As with all Addams cartoons - its subtle, dry and understated. In this instance more so with the dialog than with the image. the dialog from the oarsman in the close up boat to his mate: "I imagine it's the University of Southern California" FYI: the New Yorker is a magazine that has been published for almost a century (since 1925). Besides articles - the magazine is famous for its single panel cartoons of which there were many in each issue. The covers were also often cartoons/comic style images. Over the years - many cartoonists worked for the magazine. Chas Addams being just one. Addams drew more than 1,300 cartoons over the course of his life. Those that did not appear in The New Yorker were often in Collier's and TV Guide. Hoping this brings a smile to your day. Social/Sharing |

Yeah. Pretty much NCAA rules of no pay for services of physical labor. Even Addams recognized the plight of "student athletes".

Nicely drawn cartoon. You should post the size so we have some context as compared to standard comic art.

This one is 12.5x19 inches. So not tiny.. but not huge.

I really love looking at the expressions on every single character's face in this one. Addams took the time to really think about making them all separate expressions and poses. He was meticulous in his desire for humor. I am in awe of this one! Huge congrats!

A big smile. Thank you. I love all Chas Adams work, it is perfectly in my sensibility. Dark humor is my families thing, and we all have an abiding love for his work. And they're all from So Cal, too. Heh. Great score. Congrats!

Great example. Really raises the class of CAF to have a Charles Addams appearance.
