Description

No question this is the best thing I ever found on the back of a page.

This is even cooler than the front...a Colan/Everett page from Cap 136 that I picked from a small pile of art the Colans brought to SDCC in 2004.

Ok, maybe it is just me...an Everett fanatic...but damn if this isn't a piece of forgotten history...and color too! It was reproduced in B&W in Alter Ego v3 # 22. It is explained there that although dated 1971, the art was created in 1970..so this was a "future" vision.

2020 Update: Published in "Timely’s Greatest: The Golden Age Sub-Mariner by Bill Everett - The Post-War Years Omnibus."

And...the profile is Mr. Everett...you can see the Marie Severin portrait Everett Oddities gallery for a quick check.

Enjoy!

P.S. This piece has a lot of views so great to see the CAF community appreciates an unusual treasure like this

P.S.S. Appreciate Hart editing out the cigarette to create my Avatar for CAF!

This is one of my favorite pieces on CAF - it's always nice to see the inner workings of creative minds.

that figure head on the left is a perfect example of how well someone can draw when they done it for years! simple, gorgeous and he just nails the whole feel of it all!

WOW Mark! Thanks so much for sharing this with us! It's awesome! Reminds me alot of Mike Ploog's art also. Love Billl's beautiful art work & inks. Beside's his goregous art. I loved his inks on Gene Colan's Capt. A & Black Widow! & Jack Kirby's Thor! Man I loved his art especially on the Sub-Mariner & on the Hulk VS Hercules story by Kirby in Tales to Astonish #79. I just wish it had been a much longer story, with a much longer battle!

Everett would have done an anti-classic Captain America, something in between Nick Fury and Rambo, in my opinion. It would have been great.

That is so cool. Everett is one of my all-time fav artists. Seeing his rendition of Cap is a thrill. Shame this wasn't included in the Everett book that came out a few years back. A great read about a very interesting artist.

I offered the piece up to Blake Bell but I guess it didn't fit or make the cut....

That is strange. I think this would have been very much appreciated by fans. Oh well. I am happy to look at it here.

Love this piece - one of the reasons CAF exists in my opinion - to see art and ideas that would otherwise never come to light.

How could you not be an Everett fanatic? His body of work is too often overlooked. I am truly envious; just so much greatness there to absorb. Big congrats!!

That is amazing. I am a huge Everett fan. If you ever decide to sell, put me at the top of the list for this and any of your other Everett pieces.

A bolt of lightning from the blue! Wow, to find this on the back of a page is incredible! The images are both fantastic, and in vibrant color, no less. And I love that his sketch is water related with that Captain America "wet suit." Fitting.  And, um, I want that toy!! Awesome find. Big congrats!

Gorgeous Bill Everett work! I love how expressive his linework is. The rendering of both the portrait and the full figure CA have an energy to them! Everett was a master!
