Description

Storyboards from the Rankin Bass animated film The Hobbit 1977.
Another huge childhood favorite film (those songs rocked). This complete scene is from when Thorin and company head out from the Shire to start their quest.
Baggins wasn't havin' it.

These boards were drawn by Takashi Hisaoka at Topcraft in Japan (later known for Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind), which later evolved into Studio Ghibli.

The paper is also very thin, like tracing paper.

Looks great with the tube TV storyboard frames.  Every drawing feels complete and not sketchy at all.

Thanks for the comment.

Just did a quick search for Rankin Bass storyboards.  Apparently this tube shaped storyboard format goes back to their early 60s productions.

What a great piece to add to the collection! This was the introduction to Tolkien for so many people

Thanks!  Agreed.  Outside of the Jackson LOTR trilogy, I'd put this animated film as my favorite Tolkien adaptation.  It's got a charm to it.
