I’ve posted this story on facebook a few times so forgive me if you’ve read it already. I used to work at a collector’s toystore in the late 90’s/early 00’s. We would do shows around town and some national ones. There was a great group putting on shows in Houston I think were called Lonestar Comics (out of Dallas?). One show they brought in Dave Cockrum and because they liked us so much they put us next to Dave for the entire weekend! I got to see him interact with his fans all weekend. Of course, one of those fans was me! I told him I wanted a fastball special but not with Wolverine, but with a character he created. So, Nightcrawler it was! At the end of the first day the promotors invited everyone to a screening of X2. My boothmate was told and he did not tell me. But I heard that when Colossus appeared on screen Dave stood up and cheered…..which is awesome because Dave was in a wheelchair. I really wish I could have been there for that! I never met him again but I’ve heard other wonderful stories from other fans that have met him.

A special piece indeed! Dave really treasured the fans and you can see the smiles on the characters to express his own happiness!

Such a fun sketch! I also got to hang out with Dave at several cons in the late 90s to early 2000s and can confirm that he was always so gracious to his fans.
