DescriptionAs much as I have been enjoying Tom's art within the GI Joe corner of the Energon, it should be mentioned that what adds so much to the experience has been the portrayal of these characters we have lived with for so many years. Duke was always fairly uninteresting to me, until now. He is essentially an over the top 80's action hero, truly living up to his moniker of "A man of action."Here we se the impulsive and decisive Duke in an exploding hijaked Cobra FANG propelled forward attacking Mercer, proving himself to be a constant thorn in the side of Cobra and all of its associates. Tom draws action so incredibly well, its really been a dream to see him on a property with such meaningful nostalgic connections! At the same time this book is providing something new to an IP that so desperately has needed such a breath of fresh air! Social/Sharing |

Fantastic sequencing. Love the chopper reflection in the face guard.

"80s Action Hero Duke" sounds like a B or even C movie level franchise name, or perhaps a brand new retro inspired action figure line! Either way, Tom Reilly brings the great action and storytelling from panel to panel here, capped off by that excellent chopper reflection and subsequent explosion shot. Very cool!

I'd watch that movie series, sounds like some great fun, grab some popcorn, turn off your brain and enjoy!
Speaking of movies, I really do love the flow of Tom's storytelling. Fast paced action, great camera angles...I'd happily watch this issue on the bigscreen too!

I like the toys being used in the series. No redesign, just keep them with the cool 80's look with upgraded firepower!

Williamson is a fan of the current toy series and has already taken character designs once revealed as figures and gone "Ok, that's going in in the book somewhere!"
Fun to see fans who love the property want to put forth the effort to put out a great comic!

Super simple, clean, classic storytelling! You know, I was never a hard core GI Joe fan, but I did read it for a while but don't remember Duke being anything but a likeable leader. I guess I'll find out the truth about Duke whenever I eventually get around to my 50 issue TPB!

Fully capable and likable leader for sure, but he never really stood out to me. Always felt kind of bland, dutiful soldier guy to me. He kind of got lost in the shuffle when it comes to all of the other colorful and interesting characters. Here, finally he is given a spotlight and I really like this portrayal.
