DescriptionSalacious B. CrumbIllustration/Art by Doug Baron (Heroes Con 2023) I am currently enjoying the heck out of Ahsoka on Disney Plus and so going to dip back into sharing some Star Wars art, hopefully without running out of art to post by the next Star Wars month (May 2024). My good buddy Jeff Wedding recently saw to it that I'd at least have one more Star Wars piece to post to my gallery by gifting me this sweet illustration by Doug Baron of Salacious B. Crumb. and threw it into a package of other Star Wars stuff I was buying from him already - the guy is just damn too nice!! I don't deserve it but I definitely appreciate it. If you grew up on the original films then you likely know "SBC", Jabba The Hutt's court jester, and for me one of the funniest characters in all of Star Wars. He gets no respect and he doesn't have any issues making his grievances known - he'd excel at the annual Festivus dinner table in some weird hybrid Seinfeld and Star Wars galaxy/universe - airing his grievances like no one else. He's the Rodney Dangerfield of Tatooine! Thanks again to Jeff and Doug! Social/Sharing |

Your SBC collection is growing! Also, how does SBC make little sbcs?

I can imagine this piece hanging in a frame in a place of prominence in the home of the Crumb family, with family and friends gazing upon it as they gather around a long dinner table to celebrate the life of Salacious B. Crumb.

No respect! No respect! What a fun piece and a very nice gesture by Jeff. He probably would make for a great friend as long as you keep him away from water.

How did you know my instructions say to keep me away from water?

So if I asked you about art, you'd probably give me the skinny on every comic art book ever written. Doug Baron, you know a lot about him. Life's work, comic book credits , his classes in NJ libraries , Sugar Ray Finhead, the whole works, right? But I'll bet you can't tell me what it smells like in the Clarence Dillon Public Library. You've never actually stood there and went to his class and learned how to draw Salacious B Crumb; seen that.
If I ask you about women, you'd probably show me a portfolio of your personal pin up art favorites. You may have even got a Slave Leia commission few times. But you can't tell me what it feels like to wake up next to Jabba and feel truly happy. You're a tough kid. And I'd ask you about war, you'd probably throw Lucas at me, right, "May the force be with you." But you've never been near one. You've never held the Rancor’s head in your lap, watch him gasp his last breath and look at your eyes after getting crushed by a falling gate.
I'd ask you about love, you'd probably quote me Daredevil comics. But you've never looked at Elektra and been totally saied. Known a woman who could level you with her thighs, feeling Frank Miller put an assassin on you. Who could rescue you from the depths of hell. And you wouldn't know what it's like to be her angel, to have that love for her, be there with her Hand connection, through anything, through resurrection.
And you wouldn't know about being at the graveyard for two months, fighting off the hand, because the ninja’s could see in your eyes, that the terms "Jabba no wonka" don't apply to you. You don't know about real loss, 'cause it only occurs when the sail barge you were on suddenly exploded. And I doubt you've ever dared to love any artwork that much. And look at you... I don't see an intelligent, comic art fan... I see a cocky, scared bearded padawan. But you're a genius Kavi. No one denies that. No one could possibly understand the depths of you. But you presume to know everything about me because you saw a Crotch Goblin painting of mine, and you ripped my fucking life apart. You're a Star Wars art collector right?
You think I know the first thing about how hard your life has been, how you feel, who you are, because I read Dark Empire? Does that encapsulate you? Personally... I don't give a shit about all that, because you know what, I can't learn anything from you, I can't read in some comic book. Unless you want to talk about you, and your art. Then I'm fascinated. I'm in. But you don't want to do that do you sport? You're terrified of what you might say.
Your move, chief.

Fantastic Salacious B. Crumb illustratiion by Doug Baron! Doug really caught the look of Star Wars' most memorable court jester! Really funny piece that actually made me laugh when I saw it! What a neat gift!

I'm not sure Jabba would approve of this portrait of his little friend. However, it's pretty cool!
