DescriptionThis was one of my CAL (Fall 2024) purchases and I'm thrilled to add it to my collection. Alex Vede is a Spain-based artist who has self-published a few sketch/art books and a couple of comics. Dark Horse recently picked up his first book (Yucatan 1512) and it'll be published with them in 2025. This cover is from his second book and I'm quietly keeping my fingers crossed that it gets picked up as well.I love Vede's art. It has a unique and recognizable style... scratchy and rough, but it's never difficult to tell what's going on. In some ways, and maybe many people would disagree, he reminds me a bit of Mignola. To be clear, his style isn't the same as Mignola's. But, they both produce artwork that is so internally cohesive, it feels like each character they draw is plucked from the same world as the last one. Vede's art has the same "you know it when you see it" quality. Social/Sharing |

I love the commentary in your description, Brian. But you know what? I actually DO see Mignola in Vede's style in this piece, especially in the bottom two thirds of it. The thing is, it's the late 80's Mignola style, not the minimalist style he evolved into with Hellboy. Cool looking piece. I love that you seem to be a big fan of Horror!

I'm a big fan of monsters, which usually (but not always) means Horror. :) I like super heroes as much as the next OA collector, but I'm even more drawn to the dark/creepy stuff.

A nice spooky cover! The colorist decided to hide most of the monster, but it actually works to make the atmosphere even more dense with fear.
