Description

I’ve been following Jester’s work for about a year or so now. And thus far I’ve really enjoyed his style of playful Good Girl art. While I am fine with the cheesecake factor, the images that work best for me are those with a good balance of sexy AND fun. I realized (and came to expect) from the beginning that a large chest and/or skimpy outfits were going to be a consistent part of the offerings. But for me personally, when the artist relies less on those hooks and more on playful poses and facial expressions, the resulting images end up with a lot more “personality”. Things as simple as an alluring or captivating smile and big, luminous eyes, can do so much more for a Good Girl piece than the size of her chest or how small (or tight) you can make her costume. Again, for me, it’s really about finding that perfect balance visually.

Which brings us to this piece. At first glance, She-Hulk would seem to be the perfect subject for this style of art. She’s an oversized character with oversized lady parts to match. And squeezing her into an undersized bikini only accentuates that. I actually thought the artist showed quite a bit of restraint with She-Hulk's chest here, considering the ample bosoms of some of his other subjects. LOL! In any case, that’s not why I bought this piece. For those who don’t already know, the only thing as equally intense as my hand fetish is my green fetish. I’m obsessed with the color green! So anything involving that color will always get my attention (although it doesn’t necessarily mean I’m going to pull out my wallet). That’s what initially drew me to this image. I probably would have bought this on that basis alone, but the more I looked at it, the more I fell in love with her face. I mean, those eyes are HUGE (again, I’d rather have big, beautiful eyes than big boobs)! And I’m such a sucker for the side glance. Not sure why, but I always find that view to be so much more interesting than those looking straight at you. Anyway, ultimately, I found myself loving the character, the colors, the figure work, the pose, and of course that million-dollar face. The artwork was produced with mixed inks, color pencils, and Posca markers on tan cardstock.

My only disappointment was discovering, upon receiving it, that the online image the artist provided had been greatly “enhanced” and not entirely representative of its true appearance (a sentiment I relayed to the artist). You can see a screen grab of the online pic in the Additional Images and compare it to my raw scan of the original. The online image is SO BRIGHT (almost to the point of being washed out), whereas the original artwork is much more lackluster and flat. While the misrepresentation wasn’t enough to prompt a return, I do wish the artist made more of an effort to generate an accurate reproduction. Most of us on CAF are familiar with the phrase, “The scan doesn’t do the piece justice.” That’s as it should be. Because the original should always look better than any scan or photo. I’m sure many of you have purchased art online where the image wasn’t particularly flattering, but you knew that didn’t matter because you could imagine how much better the original would be once you saw it in person. The point is, if you’re going to be surprised by the difference between a scan and the original, the surprise should always be in favor of the original. That being said, I do still love the piece. It may not be as vivid or vibrant as the picture that prompted me to buy it, but the character is still the character, the pose is still the pose, and that face is still that face.

Thanks for coming by.

FOOTNOTE: Since drafting this description, I did receive a message from the artist explaining that he didn’t have a scanner and all the online images are taken with his phone. He didn’t mention it, but I assume that the camera flash is what’s causing the brightness and overexposure. He did promise to try and put up more accurate representations going forward, which I appreciated.

The facial expressions on Jester's art are great. His anatomy can't be ignored either. For me, what stands out is the way he draws eyes and lips and of course the amazing color work. Congrats!

Great balance of sexy, playful and fun. Appreciate the heads up as well. Jester should certainly put a portion of his funds aside for a good scanner. He is very talented.

As tempted as I am to echo your suggestion for him to buy a scanner, I don't want to be a hypocrite.  Since it took me more than 30 years of collecting before I finally decided to spend money on a full size scanner.  So I guess I'm not one to talk.  Thanks for the comment buddy!

I would definitely be more than satisfied with this piece but I can see where you're coming from, he clearly used some fancy enhancing filter when he posted the piece online.

Even still! This is all the things you said it is: sexy, cute, flirtatious and just all around a ton of fun. I'm going to have to keep an eye on Jester's work!

Thanks buddy!  You nailed it with the eyes and lips thing.  When done effectively, those particular attributes not only stand out, but even when the character is masked (as many of his subjects are), those facial characteristics still shine through.

Looks like Superheroes Mandied!  Adjust your scanner settings for color pieces or use a phone camera.

A phone camera is what got us into this pickle in the first place.  The original looks nothing like the phone pic the artist used, not even close.  FYI, when I do a raw scan of a color piece and it needs any sort of adjustment, I actually hold the original next to the computer and tweak it until what I see on the screen matches the original exactly (or as close as possible).  Maybe it's too much to expect the artist/seller to go to that extreme, but it would be nice if it looked like at least SOME effort was made in that regard.

By the way, it's ironic that you make a Mandy reference (all hail the great Dean Yeagle).  My favorite thing about Mandy is her green eyes.  But in this case, you get a green everything else!

Apt St Patty's add!  Gotta love her expression here, and all those hues of green!  I gotta look into Jester's work more myself.  The Sensational She-Hulk, indeed!  Congrats!

Wow! What a gorgeous pin-up by Jester! There's a kind of impishness to his take on the She-Hulk. I'm reminded a little of some Disney characters, like the fawns in Fantasia, or Moana. There's also a sweetness and an innocence (Despite the bikini and voluptuous figure) to Jester's painting. The side glance he used here also suggests a shyness that's very appealing. I'll have to keep an eye out for other Jester pin-ups to see if they have the same wide-eyed innocence. Anyway, I think you got a nice one, Eric, congrats!

1000% agree with all your points.  Especially the impish, sweet, and innocent qualities.  And yes, she could definitely fit the mold of a Disney princess.  If not for the bikini of course.  To be  honest, I'm actually glad he doesn't always nail that perfect combination of all those qualities in his pieces.  If he did, I'd certainly have a lot more than just one.  Haha!  Thanks for the comment buddy!

Cute piece! I was a little leery of this artist at first with all the recent AI troubles in our hobby.  I see now they are putting process videos on their ebay listings and now I'm on the hunt for a piece.

Having been burned by another eBay artist, I was right there with you about diving in.  But a local collector friend got himself one and he assured me it was legit.  So I felt a lot better about pulling the trigger on this one.  I didn't know about the process videos.  Will have to go and check that out.  Thanks Seamus!
