Description

Incoming blast of nostalgia! Fun commission of Atari Force’s Dart by Copra creator Michel Fiffe.

Atari Force was a title that often worked better conceptually than in execution, much like a lot of the concepts DC tried in the 1980s. Fiffe captures the promise of the series in his portrayal of Dart.

Atari Force!  Awesome idea for a commission.  I still fondly remember the original mini comics that came with Atari 2600 games.  I didn't see the regular DC series until a few years later, but I do recall that the character designs were very cool, Dart being a great example.

Yeah, I loved those mini comics. Was always a treat getting them with cartridges like Berzerk, Star Raiders, etc.

The design reminds me of Zealot from Wildcats taking the hair,  the face  paint motif, and being an alien female warrior.  The color pencils are light and smooth to have a full look.  The marketing for Atari never worked for me because most kids don't even read the instructions before playing the game, so the comic back story was in also filed away that category and memory.

A perfect subject for Fiffe :)

(I actually only read AF last year and found it was excellent. The JGL art alone makes it a mandatory read/enjoyment).

I am jealous of this one Mark, saw this online and really liked what he did with it. Such a great character design.

Thanks, Tyler. Fiffe is so great and I know you feel the same given all the great pieces from him in your collection. That Maxx is perfect.

I've often fantasized what character I would ask Michel Fiffe to draw if given an opportunity (as he doesn't sell his Copra pages). It would have to be an 80s DC character for sure. But none of what I've come up with so far is as perfect as this one. Garcia-Lopez's Dart. Once you see it, it becomes self-evident. Brilliant.

It just felt like the right choice. I'd love to see Fiffe do a skewed take on Atari Force, much as he's done with tne Suicide Squad in the pages of Copra. Until then I'll have to be satisfied with this.
