DescriptionAnother 6x9 prelim on vellum! Here we see Cosmic Boy, Colossal Boy, Star Boy, Light Lass, and Element Lad on the planet Dormir, the "communications hub of the universe". The weird energy bursts zipping around are sentient beings that route information all around the planet. It's an excellent example of something the Threeboot Legion did very well, which was come up with some truly unique and fascinating concepts for the worlds and peoples of the 31st Century. I love that this prelim seems mostly like a way for Barry to nail down where all the shadows and highlights were going to go, since you can see he didn't even outline some of the Legionnaires if there wasn't a strong contrast between them and the background.Social/Sharing |

He absolutely is! I love getting to take a good, close look at these earlier steps of his process.

I agree with your thought that these vellum pages were made to block out light and dark to see how they look at published size. I have one here.
Ooh, that's a nice one! Thanks for sharing!

wow, these prelims have such a cool stylized look/finish to them, they are very interesting to look at in comparison to the published page. have you ever paired them up with the final published art, or at least seen them? I'm sure I could search CAF and find just curious

Unfortunately, art from this run is very hard to come across, so I've never personally managed to reunite a prelim with its final product. R Berman in the comment above yours has a finished piece with the prelims matched to it, though! I love how these prelims show that Barry's art is so beautiful because a ton of thought and work goes into each page before he ever starts working on the piece that's actually going to be published.

It looks stronger in this form. The impact is lessened when they try to make it more detailed.
