DescriptionStar Wars: Ewoks Animated SeriesPainted Production Cel Season 2, Episode #10a (Episode #23 Overall) - "Horville's Hut Of Horrors" Directed by Ken Stephenson & Dale Schott Written by Paul Dini Produced by Nelvana Limited & Lucasfilm Original Airdate: November 15, 1986 "Star Wars: Ewoks", is an animated series featuring the Ewok characters introduced in "Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi" (1983) and further discovered in "Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure" (1984) and its sequel "Ewoks: The Battle for Endor" (1985). The series was co-produced by Canada-based Nelvana Limited on behalf of Lucasfilm and broadcast on ABC, with its sister series Droids (as part of The Ewoks and Droids Adventure Hour), and then by itself, as The All-New Ewoks. It ran for 2 seasons of 13 half hour episodes for a total of 26 episodes. Most of the episodes from season 2 had two different titled segments/stories within each episode (10a / 10b etc,). Another cool aspect of this series is that about half of the episodes were written or co-written by Paul Dini, of Batman: The Animated Series and many other Animation properties fame, including this one! Segment/episode synopsis for "Horville's Hut of Horrors": A visit to Horville's Hut of Horrors puts the woklings into a crying fit. An attempt to hide the truth only makes Wicket regret it. This production used cel can be seen in the frames at approximately the 3 minute mark, an additional cel was layered in that included the added woklings to the right visible in those frames. Ver cool cel! They're tricky in preserving but well worth the work to do so

I can feel the beat of Ewok drums in my chest, and hear the mellow tones of Taj Mahal, just from glancing at this cel. Fun!

The Ewok backlash after the third film came out was always interesting to me. Personally, I enjoyed their addition to the SW universe. Certainly they were nowhere near as annoying as Jar-Jar. And the way they were used in the Endor battle was exciting and fun without being silly. As far as visual characters, I think they're perfect for animation. This super fun cel is a perfect example.

Don't let their cute furry cheeks fool ya. They'd just as soon roast you on a spit.

You watch their faces
You'll see the Lucas and the things they ought to be
But only we can see
They come for killing, they leave and still it seems
The cel that's left behind can animate your mind
But sail on, sing your song, carry on
Cause Ewoks, Ewoks, Ewoks
We pray to someone
But when its paints are done
It's really all the same with just a Wicket name
So many voices, and Dini choices
If we listen, they will say, oh we can find Logray
But we'll sail on, sing a song, carry on
Cause Ewoks, we rock
Ewoks, we rock
We rock, Ewoks
We rock, Ewoks
We rock

This hits in the nostalgia department big time. A fun cel, although "Horville's Hut of Horrors" sounds way more terrifying now than it did 39 years ago :)
