Description"L'Inferno di Topolino".This is a 1949 story written by Guido Martina and illustrated by Angelo Bioletto. We're talking about one the first Disney stories fully realized by Italian artists and at the same time the first important one published on "Topolino" (Mickey Mouse) magazine. We're talking about the first "Grande Parodia" (many parodies related to literature and cinema followed). We're talking about history. This is a story every fan of Disney comics in Italy knows and loves. Mickey Mouse is Dante Alighieri, Goofy is Virgilio. Martina used a lot of Disney characters in the story, including the ones from the movies and cartoons. And you know I love this story, right? (just looking at my home page, with Celoni's rendition of the Inferno on top of everything) When the possibility came up for a Mottura commission in Lucca C&G 2021, I didn't think twice and put Mickey/Dante on the list... and, as usual, Paolo was incredible! Mickey is sitting on a pile of skulls, writing his Commedia, with flames and flying devils in the background. Really love the overall composition, beautifully balanced. As for my other "Inferno di Topolino" related pieces, please check: - Fabio Celoni illustration - Fabio Celoni Goofy/Virgil con sketch - Corrado Mastantuono Inferno - Corrado Mastantuono Inferno with Alessandro Zemolin inks - Corrado Mastantuono Inferno prelim - Alberto Lavoradori Inferno - Giorgio Cavazzano Inferno Huge thanks to Paolo!!! Looks like the more scary classic scenes from Fantasia or The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad! It has that wonderful feel of something very artisitcally crafted with care that has the Disney quality.

So striking, and has such a classic vintage Disney feel to it. I love how dark it is, and how the smoke seems to form the fingers of a hand on the top right. Great piece!
