Description"L'Inferno di Topolino".This is a 1949 story written by Guido Martina and illustrated by Angelo Bioletto. We're talking about one of the first Disney stories fully realized by Italian artists and at the same time the first important one published on "Topolino" (Mickey Mouse) magazine. We're talking about the first "Grande Parodia" (many parodies related to literature and cinema followed). We're talking about history. This is a story every fan of Disney comics in Italy knows and loves. Mickey Mouse is Dante Alighieri, and Goofy is Virgilio. Martina used a lot of Disney characters in the story, including many from the movies and cartoons. *** I had the chance to meet Davide Cesarello in Lucca for the 2025 edition of "Collezionando" where he was a special guest at the Papersera stand. Davide started working with Disney in the 90s, there were only a few stories and a lot of covers/illustrations, but also the work for the consumer products department, which is something quite different than comic books. Before coming back as a Topolino artist in 2019, his last story published in the magazine was from 1998! Also, he came back with a new style... basically rebuilt himself, something is now hinting at Massimo De Vita (who, in the meantime, retired), and his storytelling became a thing of beauty: clear, fluid, and cinematic. His most notable recent work for Topolino includes some new chapters of the Tops Stories (written by Giorgio Pezzin) as well as long and complex stories such as "Gli Evaporati" and "500 Piedi" (written by Bruno Enna). Since he was open to working on studio commissions, I wanted to see his vision on the "L'Inferno di Topolino" subject... and, oh boy, did he deliver! A haunting illustration, where Mickey and Goofy are in the center on a rock with many skulls surrounded by devils, tormented souls, and with the nice touch of Donald-harpy and the Pluto-Cerberus. Amazing. sadly this is something way too many people think... but we Disney fans certainly know better :)
the best Disney stories do have multiple layers, and can be enjoyed by kids and adults at the same time
