DescriptionTo say that this page was nostalgic to me is an understatement. This page is from the first Captain America comic I bought off the newsstand as a kid. I literally came into the middle of this story. The Serpent Squad, Sub-Mariner and oh yeah, Steve Rogers was no longer Captain America but Nomad! Needless to say, that I went looking for earlier back issues as soon as I could to read what led up to this issue. Because of this introductory book, Nomad and Subby's disco outfit have a fond place in my heart.I haven't seen a lot of pages from this book for sale over the years, so when this cool battle page was up for auction, I had to go the extra mile for this one. I haven't had a published page by Sal in a while, and he was the artist on a lot of my early comics. So it's extra special to have one from my first book drawn by Sal as well! Social/Sharing |

Nice drawn battle page with some equally great dialogue. The fact that it's so personally nostalgic to you is the icing on the cake. Congrats!

My sweet spot for Cap was between issues #150-ish and 180-ish. So I was a big Sal fan on Cap long before I got into the Kirby, Steranko, Colan, and Romita runs. Like you, I really dug Namor's black outfit. I just thought it was cool that he had an actual "costume" as opposed to the scaly green trunks. I realize now it was a last ditch effor to save his title from cancellation, but it was cool while it lasted. Anyway, congrats on a great black costume battle page and just an all around great Sal Buscema page.
