Description

Show a leg, indeed. This piece, entitled ‘Show A Leg’, was a pin-up done in original goauche and included in the November 18, 1942, edition of Sketch Magazine, the British illustrated weekly journal (primarily a society magazine) that ran for almost 3,000 issues from 1893 to 1959.

This piece was also featured on page 44 of Terry Parker’s ‘Sirens: The Pin-Up Art of David Wright’, the definitive examination of David Wright’s commercial illustration and pin-up work.

Any taxi cab or car driving along the road will stop for her!

She is inside. Any taxi driving through her place would have to be driven through the building to reach her. Maybe they did, after seeing a glimpse of her through the window. This is how femme fatales get fatally injured by exploding chunks of walls or glass. Is that the shadow of the approaching taxi appearing at the bottom left of the painting?
