Staff Sgt. Allison R. Hart-Burnett, codenamed Lady Jaye, was one of my first cartoon crushes. I mean, look at her: Shapely, brave, total badass with spears. So you have to imagine how pressured I was to sketch her for the first time as part of a four-image project for the G.I. Joe Collectors Platoon Show in Long Branch, ON. Rendered on hand-trimmed 11 x 17" Canison Mixed Media Paper with mixed media. As you can see, while I succeeded with the curves and the hair, I forgot to put her knife harness on her shirt, so quick thinking entailed making use of a hand that wasn't doing anything. I also framed her in a background similar to the decal on the packaging of a 1980s G.I. Joe action figure, which is a motif I maintained for the other three sketches. The sketch will be offered for auction at midnight on May 1 individually and in a four-drawing lot. Yo, Joe!
