Description

This important daily was sold as being the first appearance of Walt and Phyllis Wallet's third child, Judy. It is identified as the first Judy on the Wallet Family Tree prepared by the current Gasoline Alley artist, Jim Scancarelli. [Thanks to Suat Ng for pointing this out to me.] Other sources state that Judy first appeared a day earlier, on February 27, 1935, but that strip probably just shows Walt finding a package on the seat of his locked car. In any event, since the heirs of Frank King apparently did not have the original of the strip for February 27, this strip, at worst, is most likely the earliest surviving example of a strip which shows the Running Board Baby who ultimately is known as Judy Wallet. It also is one of the liveliest, best drawn strips by King from this period.

The original caption for this strip was �Abandoned by the stork?"
