DescriptionI like comic strip originals with Halloween themes almost as much as those about Christmas. This is the first one from Gasoline Alley that I had a chance to acquire, and I'm happy that it's actually a strip for Halloween Day. The daily for October 31, 1921 had nothing to do with Halloween, so this is the second strip for the holiday which featured Skeezix.Social/Sharing |

Very charming daily. There are some interesting features to this one. The moon in window in the second panel and the shape of the window add to the mood here although it is unlikely they had windows of that shape in a house at that time period (at least I think it would be rare). In the third panel there is that cool rug and you can tell the use of vanishing points in the positioning of the rug. The rug wasn't in the second panel so either Skeezix has gone further down the hall past another room with a similar window or the rug was added later as a design element that was felt was not needed in the second panel. These early Skeezix years dailies are all a treat to see and a special day like Halloween is a rare find indeed.

King seems to have given yet another clue which would indicate that Skeezix had moved farther along and was outside yet another room by the third panel -- there is a picture hanging on the wall to the left of the door in the second panel yet none is in that position in the third panel, where the rug appears. I'm sure King would be gratified that viewers still appreciate his attention to little details such as these 90 years after he bothered to include them in works intended to be seen on a single day.
