DescriptionThis is it for me, THE definitive John Byrne Captain America image, cover or no. This has it all, the Avengers, the Invaders, the whole history in a nut shell. This is from issue 255, the famous "shot from pencils" issue. This is a rare glimpse of pure, finished pencils from Byrne at his prime. I must be dreaming.Social/Sharing |

You are going to be a heppy, heppy kat, seeing that every day on your wall. And that's all pencil? It's amazing. Congratulations, T!

Your collection is ridiculous to say the least, but WOW, now you throw this out there. Byrne's art is a Marvel in itself, and you are correct, this is one of his masterpieces. Thanks for sharing.

Hey buddy, sorry to be late for the celebration. But now that I'm here, let me just add my congratulations! I know we talked about this for a bit, and I'm glad you worked it out. As big a Byrne geek as you are, no one could love it, or deserve it, more! Congratulations my friend, ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe that I still didn't comment it! This piece is incredible (like you didn't know!), and imho, it's the best sample of pure pencils of Byrne's peak work. As you said, this piece has everything you could dream from Capi's history, and it's better than any of the covers of the run.
BTW, since Joe Rubinstein is credited in this issue, I wondered which was his contribution if this piece looks 100% penciled. Joe told me... "I went over the photostats of the pencils with ink. Lines were weak or disappeared all together so i went over them. I didn't do any actual inking except for inking the last page (one panel was drawn by Marie Severin) but I did no actual inking /changes to John's pencils."

I can't believe I haven't commented on this masterpiece sooner, this is the best Captain America piece EVER!!! It is soooo darn beautiful! As a man that loves all of JBs work... this has to make the top ten Byrne pieces of all time. There I said it, I feel better for righting the wrong of not commenting on this gem! Tim you must be living right with a collection so fine.
