I remember picking up HARD-BOILED when it came out. I had to, it was Miller! But what stuck with me was the art. The artist, Geof Darrow, was new to me. His stuff blew me away...I'd never seen this sort of precise detail before. This is a penciled panel. Geof pencils out individual panels (as large art) before he arranges them and lightboxes them onto vellum for inking as a final page. This is partly how he's able to achieve such fine detail. His comic art process is different from others, but I guess it gives collectors two chances to own the same OA. I usually don't buy pencil-only pieces, but I made an exception here for an enduring image from the book: A battered and beaten Nixon defiantly holding his gun.
