DescriptionI loved these early Mar-vel and Drax issues. They were so fun together and I am a sucker for zip-a-tone. Starlin was my guy but Broderick did a fine job on his run! I know Drax's original power set was just like Mar-vels but I still loved him and hated when Starlin made Drax the replacement green dumb strong guy when Hulk/Bruce was smart (at that time) and then Marvel made him Wolverine. At least he is still a Realtor from Glendale California in the comics. Here is what HA had to say (excuse the lame Hollywood crap they always want to put on there) Pat Broderick and Bob McLeod Captain Marvel #58 Splash Page 1 (Marvel, 1978). A skirmish between Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) and Drax the Destroyer sets the mood in this title page for the out this world issue. Both characters have made their debut in the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe. Drax joined in the blockbuster movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Mar-Vell hid on Earth as scientist Wendy Lawson in the Captain Marvel movie which focused on Carol Danvers. Ink over graphite and Zipatone background on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 12". Top dressing text and indicia are stat paste-ups, light overall toning, adhesive residue, whiteout corrections, and preliminary illustrations on the reverse side. An ungraded copy of the comics is included. Art is in Very Good condition. Social/Sharing |

Destined to fight forever from outer space to alien worlds to our present day! And don't forget the Marvel Cinematic Universe tie ins! When they drew this back in 1978, this particular piece of art inspired Dave Bautista and Brie Larson to one day become actors so they can cosplay onto the big screen!

Great splash page! I like Broderick's art, but it's often inked in crappy markers, so it's great to see his pencils combined with some great inking by McLeod!

Great splash page with great polishing inks.
It also bothers me when sellers/auction houses try to pimp their OA sales up with the Hollywood connection. Which seems to be the by default selling pitch these days.
It really feels like Comics as a medium needs the validation of another one (Movies) to receive respect.
But in the end it feels like nothing else than greasy used cars salesman rhetoric ;)

When the deal making people don't know anything about the art itself, they must try to appeal to those who know even less. However, when deals are made, it reinforces this sales tactic. Did you know? That when Kevin Feige read this particular issue as a child and saw this splash, it was a done deal to make a whole cinematic universe so someday he can have this splash play out on the big screen?
