DescriptionHere's Dave Cockrum's take on Edgar Rice Burroughs' 1940 novel, Beyond the Farthest Star. This was drawn in the early to mid 70's and intended as the cover for a fanzine, but the magazine was never published. I was told that the art was used to promote a convention in Ohio and it was more recently featured in erbzine (Edgar Rice Burroughs online fanzine) #862.I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or not, but "Beyond the Farthest Star" was later used as the story title for X-Men #162, drawn by Cockrum, which featured Wolverine vs. the Brood. Great Cockrum Science Fiction art. I love the lettering. The piece has a John Carter meets Adam Strange feel to it. Really fun stuff!

Ha yeah -- definitely some interesting perspective choices by Dave, but the piece does look cool.

Cockrum cerrtainly excelled at these movie poster style team pieces. This is a fine one indeed. The little figures in front of the title text is a great touch.
Congratulations on adding this into your collection and thanks for sharing it with us here!

Strong move poster vibe to this one! Seen variations of this character layout with multiple different properties in the past and it's not hard to see why. Striking stuff here, Ted, congrats!

Very nice! Reminds of several great film posters of the past. Especially reminicent of iconic art by the great Boris Vallejo. "National Lampoons Vacation" and "Barbarella" come to mind.
