Description

Donald Duck first appeared, as a rather minor supporting character, in the 1934 Disney Silly Symphony, The Wise Little Hen. He was only in a few scenes of the cartoon, which, in and of itself, would mean that there were never as many drawings of Donald from his first cartoon as there were of Mickey from Steamboat Willie. Not only is this drawing from the very first scene in which Donald appears [he is introducing himself to the Wise Little Hen], it is also the ONLY actual animatino drawing, of which I am aware, to still exist from the cartoon. In short, drawings of Donald from the Wise Little Hen are as rare as Hens' teeth. [I'm sorry about that one.]

IT WAS WORTH THE RADIO AND LAUNDRY!

The night that I went to my animation dealer friend's house to buy this drawing, I had parked on the street in front of his house. When I came out to go home, all happy with my new purchase, I saw that my car had rolled into the rear of my friend's car, which was parked in front of mine. I thought, "Oh no, I forgot to put it in park!" But, when I unlocked my car door, I saw a screwdriver on my seat. I looked around and saw that my car radio was gone -- Someone had broken in, neatly removed the radio, left me a remembrance, gotten into my trunk, and stolen a lot of clothes I had picked up at the laundry, then locked everything back up. He also left very clear fingerprints on the side window, but the police didn't care to investigate the theft. When I bought a new, better radio, the shop drilled into the heating core of my radiator, causing coolant to flood the interior of the car. But I figured that the losses and hassles were well worth it if they were what it took to buy such an important and incredibly rare Disney drawing! [I'm lying, I was actually very p.o.ed]
