Description

This is another really spectacular Flash Gordon Sunday from 1947. It has Flash, Dale, some villains, and a great lab scene in the bottom right panel. Briggs was a well known illustrator in his own right and drew Flash for years after serving as an assistant for Raymond then taking it over himself when Raymond left to serve in World War II. This particular Sunday has an interesting provenance. Apparently, King Features gave it to Albert Dorn in 1950 to be used as advertising for the Famous Artists School, which Briggs had become a part of. I got the original from Illustration House; it appears that it was in a fire at some point as it is scorched along all four sides... but mostly the right. The image area is still nice though... especially the middle panel of Dale in the top tier. Great stuff.

Briggs' Flash Gordon maybe the most underrated FG of all? I have a Briggs FG daily, absolutely gorgeous, but no FG or Dale on it. :-( So you can imagine how envious I am of a Briggs' Sunday with those two characters thereon! SWEET!
