Description

Used as the cover for the September 1957 issue of Galaxy, I've always thought this is a very evocative piece. So many possible explanations for the ruin and desolation which have worn down this monument commemorating a great achievement, as well as the city in the background.

Looks like 'whaley' old damage.He should not have annoyed the space whale which, then destroyed the civilisation while angry.Well , thats one explanation.
