Here's another piece we framed this weekend, quite different from the George Barr I posted yesterday. This one is by Ed Emshwiller, and is a preliminary for the cover to Arthur C. Clarke's "Prelude to Space" (Gnome Press, 1954). Seventy years old this year.

Just a few years before the spce race really heated up! Clarke and Emshwiller must have taken notice of the ambitions of the superpowers. This blends real technology and the questions mankind's place in the galaxy.
