Description

This is a beautiful color illustration I got from Dave at LCCAF 2023.

Gormenghast is a fantasy series by British author Mervyn Peake, about the inhabitants of Castle Gormenghast, a sprawling, decaying, Gothic structure. It comprises three novels: Titus Groan (1946), Gormenghast (1950), and Titus Alone (1959); and a novella, Boy in Darkness (1956).
Peake was also writing a fourth novel, Titus Awakes, at the time of his death in 1968: his widow then finished writing the novel but it was published only in 2011 after it was discovered by the family.

Dave McKean did work on an illustrated edition of the original Gormenghast trilogy for the Folio Society, and it's simply outstanding. This illustration was used as a signing plate.

i pezzi Disney in collezione sono la maggioranza, questo è evidente, ma ho la "sfortuna" di amare il fumetto tutto ^_^

Great piece from an amazing artist! It makes me think of Picasso and Chagall: not so bad influences, I'd say ... ;)

Seems like somewhat of a departure stylistically for McKean. Love the absence of color (and light). The dark tones really add to the mood of the piece.
