DescriptionHere's a page with tremendous sentimental appeal to me. Ploog's Werewolf By Night stories (this one and issue #2) sparked my childhood transition from monster movies to comic books. I still liked monster movies, but I soon lost all perspective and became deeply involved in all aspects of comics in the mid-seventies. Werewolf movies were my favorite, and Mike Ploog's Werewolf By Night was so compellingly great that I can honestly say it was Ploog's work which really drew me into the hobby that I still enjoy thirty years later.Already pretty heavily into drawing, I copied the art from Werewolf By Night #13 and learned cross-hatching and feathering by tracing the splash page (and final story page, too), using an opaque projector to throw the image onto a piece of oaktag paper taped to the wall outside my fourth grade classroom. I drew Ploogish werewolves for quite a while, then started drawing comics in sixth grade, culminating in a daily strip in the UMASS Daily Collegian in 1976. I drew comics for pleasure for a few more years, selling a couple hundred at a time, and published a bit in the 1980s. It's a goal of mine to resume making comics, so big thanks to Mike Ploog and Frank Chiaramonte for their part in inspiring me as a child. The splash pages from Werewolf By Night #2 and #13 are ultimate grails for me, but are likely beyond reach financially were they available! Let me know if you have Ploog WWBN pages for sale, maybe I could sell a kidney? Social/Sharing |

Thanks for posting the great story to go with the art. Mike Ploog was also a childhood favorite of mine. Incredibly memorable stuff. Congrats!

Stunning Werewolf by Night page from Mike Ploog! Love the transformation scenes at the top. But I especially love the middle splash with the scenes of the Werewolf in agony. Throughout the page is beautifully laid out and the heavy inks really give the scenes depth and richness. Great pick-up!
