Description

Jim Willoughby (1928-2004) has been called, "the best cowboy cartoonist in the world." Before he acquired this label and a niche that eventually led to museum display, etc., he did hundreds or thousands of cartoons for various publications, in this case, the 60's and 70's teen favorite CarToons. The character is Vernon Wimple and the girl is (according to his widow, Sue) modeled after his then girlfriend, an exotic-looking brunette of Apache/Mexican descent. Thanks to Sue for the info and confirming that this is by Willoughby.

The piece is huge, >28" by >7" and is nowhere near as splotchy as the scan suggests.
