DescriptionThis one might be hard for me to top. Marshall Rogers was one of my "first faves" when it came to artists, so I'm always on the lookout, particularly when it comes to his earlier material. Obviously, you rarely see his Detective pages offered, and when they are, it's never for less than the cost of a small beach condo. Likewise, his Mister Miracle pages hardly ever show up for sale, and so to have a chance at these, including this absolutely incredible splash page, was an opportunity I just couldn't miss. I know many have their qualms about Vince Colletta as an inker, but on the splash there weren't any backgrounds to erase, and I think he did exemplary work on the MM figure. His no-frills line work, combined with Marshall's staging of the main character, really does make it look like Mister Miracle is leaping out of the page. The second page has its own dynamism, although who knows if there were any backgrounds there in Marshall's pencils -- Regardless, Colletta's inks keeps the focus on the characters, which is appropriate to the dramatic point of the story. This is an amazing two-page sequence from Marshall at the very start of his career, when he was still figuring out fascinating, spectacular things to do with figures and pages, and the energy just bursts out of every line and angle.Social/Sharing |

GREAT splash page, with Roger's dynamic layouts. And at a discount to what a Detective page would have run you, this is a wonderful example of work!
