Description

This is the original cover art to VENOM #150 by Magnificent Mike Perkins. As he's been doing regularly for the past 10+ years, Perkins did all the art on this, both pencils and inks. If ever there was a character that was perfectly suited for his realistic, shadow heavy, organic inking style, it's Venom. After all, what better costume to illustrate with a highly organic inking style than a character whose costume itself is organic?

This cover is part of a series of 'homage' covers Marvel has commissioned to promote something they call "Marvel Legacy", an attempt to bring back many of their characters back to basics, in conjunction with returning to their old numbering system on the covers.

A tip of the hat must also be given to Joe Quesada, who drew the Dynamic Forces Variant edition of Ultimate Spider-Man #1, which this cover homages. The forced perspective is brilliantly conceived, as it still works well with the cover tilted 90 degrees to the right, and even upside down! Mike Perkins knocked it out of the park on the recent Carnage series, and with this cover, he shows his amazing chops at drawing Venom!! A fantastic, bold and bad-a$$ cover, congrats!

Pure dark organic goodness! You know the piece is a winner when it looks good from every angle. Reminds me of Frazetta talking about turning a piece upside down to see if it still looked good.
