Description

I am very glad to finally add and early Cloak and Dagger appearance to my collection.  There is a bit of a story there but that can come later. First the page. I am a big fan of Cloak and Dagger and had mulptiple copies of all their early appearances when I used to hoard comics.  Having rid myself of comic many years ago, certain issues stayed with me long after the physical books were gone.  Peter Parker #64, 69 and 70 were really fun issues and I have a lot of nostalgia tied to them.  The cover images for those comics are burned into my brain and I have read these comics many times over the years although it has probably been 2 or 3 decades since the last time.  I still recall those stories and I had always wanted a page from one of those early issues.  This is a pretty great page to check that box and from the second appearance issue.  The large image of Spider-Man is Spectacular (see what I did there?).  The rain effect really adds atmosphere to this page.  Although it seems to change direction in panels, on the overall pages it falling from right to left and adds a visual weight to the effect.  Nice Cloak and Dagger images and content too--I couldn't ask for a better example.

I first saw this page in Ireland almost a year ago.  Perhaps I saw it earlier on CAF in the gallery of my friend Peter Sullivan but can't confirm that.  I was dropping off my daughter for her Masters in England and made a bit of a trip out of it going to London to see friends, Dublin to see friends and Wales for a Wrexham football match.  While in Dublin, I met up with Peter Sullivan, a fellow art collector and frequent commentor on CAF.  He was a most gracious host and invited me over to his house to look at art and to hang out.  It was there I met his cats and saw this page.  On parting, I mentioned to Peter that if he were to part with this page, I would be interested but that I would never mention or ask about it again if not.  We had a bit of a discussion about it after I got home and we talked about a price but it stopped there.  Earlier this year, Peter reached out to me and we talked about the piece again and a deal was had.  The page made a stop in Italy before finally arriving here sometime last week.  A big thank you to Peter for his hospitatlity and trust in letting this art pass on to me.

These early C&D appearances were great!  You and Spidey knew they were good guys underneath their conflict and wanted them to succeed in getting rid of the drug ring that creeated them.  Ultra dramatic with the rain and shadow effects!

As everyone know, Al Milgrom is the stuff of Holy Grails! I've always thought and said that his work on Peter Parker was really good and this is an excellent representation of that. Yes, I'm aware that Hannigan penciled it, and I always thought of him as a very solid and clear layout man, but it's Milgrom's finishes that make this art as beautiful as it looks. Kudos to you and your luck o' the Irish!

Glad you are happy with the page and what a page it is. Letting you also know that Jeff Junior, the cat you gave me as a present, totally controls the living room now.

Glad to hear Jeff Junior is fitting in with the rest of the brood.  Thank you again for sharing your time and collection with me and for trusting me with this piece.

What a great looking C&D in Spectacular page, those Milgrom finishes/inks really shine with the rain effect and in general. Love the shot of Spidey on the side of the water tower in the rain. congrats on the page and the travels/experiences that brought it to you!
