Descriptiona huge commission of one of my favorite literary characters, Michael Moorcock's Elric. Elric is the albino wizard king who wields the vampiric black sword, Stormbringer. In this, my first drawing of Elric, he is confronting Arioch, god of chaos, who appears as an amorphous shadow, a fly, or a beautiful golden youth. Thanks to my friend, Randall who was a superb model and great inspiration for Arioch. I modeled for Elric myself, a character I've always identified with, so it may be strange that I didn't draw him sooner. Considering I spent 1600 hours on this 18x22' piece, I must have been building up to it over the years.Social/Sharing |

Craig, This piece is so Amazing!!! You showed it to me at the Supercon and it's just Stunning! Usually they write a book and then you do the art for it but Michael Moorcock should write the book around this piece! This is now the best Elric piece that I have ever seen! Congrats on completing your Sistine chapel!

1600 hours?? So... how did you know when to stop ?? I don't even know 10 words to express my amazement. It was great to see this piece juuuust about completed at Super-Con 2008. Maybe it was the dim lighting or the sheer size when I saw i... but it looks even more impressive here. Congratulations.

Just phenomenal! I'm so happy I was able to see it in person, so near completion, at Super-Con! My hat is off to you Craig! You've outdone yourself!

First of all Craig, my hat's off to you for doing a great job of capturing the beauty of this piece in your scan (remind me to pick your brain for scanning tips next time I see you). That being said, this reproduction STILL pales in comparison to the original, which I was also privileged to see at SuperCon. Amazing colors, amazing composition & design, and amazing all around artistry by an amazing talent. Wow!

I saw this at the con, too, and it IS truly spectacular!!! I still find the obsession it takes to do this in colored pencil mind boggling! Just incredible work, Craig!

Wow Craig, this is incredible. I keep looking at it and finding new details to love. Then I see it's colored pencil and I am forced to look at it all again and appreciate the effort even more. Well done, my friend.

I had the pleasure of seeing this at S-con as well. What really blows my mind is that people line up at 6am for a sketch from a far lesser artist (yes I said it) when you could walk right up to Craig and get an amazing sketch and have a friendly conversation to boot!

When that paper was cut from the tree, could it -- in its most wildest of dreams -- have imagined its magnificent destiny? Thank you for posting this awe-inspiring piece and for the joy that it brings.

Wow! -got the original in hand and the textures Craig was able to acheive with his colored pencils is nothing short of amazing. He has hit a new level and I am the lucky receiptient. It is obvious that this Elric was a labor of love! Thank you so much Craig!!!!!!!!!

"Little Craig shows promise as an artist with his constant scribbling during class, but in my opinion lacks the discipline necessary to buckle down and take his sketches to the next level." Seriously, don't you get tired of hacking out quick pictures like this one for a fast buck? Alright, sorry... I had to go goofy on this one, as I'm THIS close to burning my art supplies and taking up crochet after seeing this. Keep kicking ass and taking names Craig, you get better each time out of the gate! You could charge rent for viewing this, so thanks for sharing with the mortals.

I absolutely cannot believe I have not stumbled acrross this before. This is simply amazing. Elric's eyes even in this photo suck you in, and the colors surrounding him are phenomenal! 1600 hrs! I can't say I have ever put that amount of time and effort into anything on this earth. My hats off to your dedication and talent!
