Description

Here is a collage of details (not on the same scale) from my two Li'l Abner Dailies, one from the Frazetta era and one from 1946. Both of these are in the Comic Strips section of my gallery. The standing Daisey Mae is Frazetta, the sitting one is not. The two top profiles are Frazetta, the bottom one is not.

The top signature is from the pre-Frazetta daily and the bottom is from the Frazetta era. They were clearly done by two different people. It's interesting that the Frazetta era signature has Frazetta's characteristic club ending on the final "p" and the bottom strokes have the characteristic Frazetta single stroke that curves to the left at the bottom. It's hard to believe that Capp wouldn't have at least signed his dailies, but he either let Frank sign the 1958 piece or Capp signed that one and had some other ghost sign the earlier one.

I'm listing them both as "All" on the credits since I think FF did the whole thing on his and Capp did everything on the other one.

Note I have Abner dailies with 2 signatures - so I think somebody in addition to Al perioidically signed them!

I question the attribution of a lot of the frazetta era art to frazetta as so many of the other artists and Capp himself drew so well- thanks for posting
